Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
